Yesterday evening I attended the latest Badego event at the Electric cinema for an evening of hand picked films showcasing masters of their trade, with the main feature being the film Made You Look.

As part of it a number of talented local artists, illustrators and designers, and myself, were asked to pick a film quote and design an A3 poster, which’d then be printed and sold on the evening.

I jumped at the opportunity despite my normal apprehensiveness about the actual creative execution part, the brief presented so many options and ideas I was surely going to find one I could do a half decent job with.

“If you have a milkshake, and I have a milkshake, and I have a straw. There it is, that’s a straw, you see? Watch it. Now, my straw reaches acroooooooss the room and starts to drink your milkshake. I… drink… your… milkshake! [Sucking sound] I drink it up!”

There will be blood

The whole film (There Will be Blood) is a masterpiece in pace, storytelling and character development, but this particular quote stands out among all others in the film. I also love milkshake.

I wanted the design to both reflect the manicness of the lines delivered by Daniel Day-Lewis, and the broad theme of the film; the corrupting influence of Oil.
